Headaches area a common occurrence in the US with various causes both benign and serious. Aside from discomfort and pain, some headaches can bring on other debilitating symptoms that disrupt one's ability to perform routine daily tasks. Since headaches can be caused by serious medical conditions, it is important to promptly find the exact cause. At New Jersey Headache Institute we employ a unique and advanced diagnostic methods to provide diagnosis and treatment of headache disorders. The following list covers only some of the advanced diagnostic processes we use.

Electroencephalography (EEG)

EEG is a non-conventional method of determining the causes of headaches, it is effective in eliminating seizures as a possible cause. Seizures sometimes show symptoms like those occurring with migraines and other headache types.

Ambulatory Electroencephalography (AEEG)

AEEG is an advanced diagnostic process that can pinpoint a headache's cause. With it electrical brain activity is recorded to determine if epilepsy or some other brain disorder is causing the headache.

Electromyography (EMG)

EMG is our most used method of measuring electrical activity in nerves and muscles. It provides information that can help locate nerve or tissue damage that may be the cause of headaches.

Videonystagmography (VNG)

VNG is an advanced diagnostic method effective in detecting neurological disorders. Many neurological conditions such as balance disorders are at the root of headaches. Treating these disorders is an effective way to decrease the frequency of, or even eliminate headaches. In addition to these advanced diagnostic procedures, we also perform home sleep studies and tests on the Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) to evaluate headaches and related neurological disorders.
